i haven't ran a marathon in decades ( last time was '84 honolulu when i ran 2:47:48--that was 23 years and 25 pounds ago. i recently commited my self to running again by training for the california int'l marathon. i haven't raced since '94 ( triathlon 1.5s/20kb/5kr) in other words i've completely lost that "competetive feeling." altho i have been religiously training for a 3:30 marathon ( my qualifying time) i would like to have some indication whether i stand a chance of qulaifying. i started training in early august and have, for the past 6 weeks averaged 40-45 miles a week capped by an 18 mile long run for 5 straight weeks and last sunday, a 20 mile run which i intend to increase to 22 miles going into the next two weeks and hope to taper 12 days before the marathon on dec. 2. i am 46 years old, 158 lbs. do you think i have achance of running a 3:30? what indicators in training would you suggest to serve as a basis for determining my chances?
