I have been considering buying some new running shoes. I have been wearing Nike Air Monarch shoes, which are actually cross-trainers. My Nike’s are size 11, which is the size of my feet. But I have read that your feet swell after you have been running for a while. And I have noticed that this seems to be true. So I have been considering either buying another pair of Nike’s, perhaps even Air Monarchs, or going to a running store. Well today after work, I visited a local running store. He had me wear some Reebok Ultra III’s saying they were neutral. I really liked the feel of the Ultra III’s. Then he had me run on the treadmill while he video taped my feet. Then he played it back in slow motion. He told me I had a neutral gate. Supposedly that is good because I can wear pretty much any shoe that feels comfortable. He had me try a pair of Reebok Ultra II’s which were on sale. I tried running in these on the treadmill, and they felt like they had no cushion at all! He had me try a few other shoes, but compared to the Reebok Ultra III’s, none of them felt anywhere as comfortable when I was running on the treadmill. I ended up buying the Reebok Ultra IIIs even though they weren’t on sale and were more expensive. I did have a 15% off coupon that I got in my goody bag from the Rochester Marathon so that helped with the price. I have been running for hundreds of miles in Nike’s. It will take me a little bit to get used to the new shoes.
