I was scheduled to run 24 miles yesterday. I want to go on a bike ride with my wife, but was limited by time. I did and aikido class in the morning. Then when I got home, I changed, and we headed down to the canal path. She rode her bike, and I ran. I had her keep her speed at 5mph, and I ran at a 12:00 pace. I would have rather been riding my bike. We did 6 miles. When we got home, I did a few things, but I was tired. I went and laid down for a few, and fell asleep. When I got up, I started running again, this time on the treadmill. My wife made dinner, and I took a break, and ate. I also cooked some stuff myself. Then it was back to the treadmill. I managed to get 11 miles on the treadmill for a total of 17 miles. I was hoping to get in at least 20, but it got to be bed time.
I got up this morning, changed, and got on the treadmill. I ran 7 miles this morning, the fill out the 24 miles I was scheduled to run.
Now I am in taper mode. The Buffalo marathon is in three weeks. It will be nice to get a rest!

Good Luck in Buffalo in 3 weeks. I hope you noticed that they changed the course from last year. Just like Vegas, it splits (be sure to stay to the right !!!)
Not sure you did the right thing by changing horses midstream during your training. Seems pretty risky to me. Also, have never been a fan of 3 week taper. Way too much.
I should be around 4:30 myself, so maybe i will see you sometime during the race.
I have a problem with starting too quickly, so i am going to purposely start LAST in hopes that i won’t be sucked into too quick a pace at the beginning. It’s not like Vegas where you have to worry about crowds.
In any event, Good luck.

I didn’t run the Buffalo marathon last year, so any course changes won’t make any difference to me. Actually the lay off in running, and the less miles during the week is a welcome refresher. I was getting tired, and burned out I felt like I was buring the candle at both ends. Besides all the running, and I do martial arts class 5 days a week. Plus with the weather improving, I have start to do some bike riding.
I think I would skip the wig, and wear a hat. I could maybe grow sideburns by then. I would have to have my wife alter the suit probably since I am thinner than I was at the LVM. Also have her modify it so I can take a leak with out having to get completely undressed. But then again, maybe I will just run it as me.
The training I had been doing was all long slow distance. No speed stuff. So this new schedule gives me speed stuff, and actually targets a time goal. I have been doing the 4:30 schedule, but I am just going to try to come in under 5 hours. This will only be my second full marathon, the LVM was my first.
Part of me is playing with the idea of running as Elvis in Buffalo. That could be fun. I got the suit!
Thanks Al! See you in Buffalo.
