I have settled on a marathon training schedule. I have been searching for a marathon training schedule that will fit me. I bought the book 4 Months To A 4 Hour Marathon. I tried to jump in there, but they were too aggressive. I have been looking at some others. I know I need to ramp up to longer runs. I also want to be building my aerobic base. What I have decided to try is use the Intermediate I schedule on page 61 of Hal Higdon’s How To Train. I am considering running in the Las Vegas Marathon on December 10th. So I am jumping in at week 5. I have been walking/jogging/running 5-8 miles a day, nearly everyday for the last few weeks. What I am thinking of doing, is doing the mileage listed in the schedule, but keep my heart rate at 70% (Karvonen Method). Maybe on the days with higher intensity, I may take it up to 75%, but well short of the 85%. Hopefully I can build my aerobic speed in the next few months.
