I was scheduled to run 4 miles at a 7:35 pace tonight. When I got home from work I needed to go pick up a belt at the local sewing machine repair shop. I jumped on my bike, and rode the hilly nearly 10 mile round trip. So I was already tired. Maybe I should have just driven. Well I got home from the bike ride about 6:30. I decided to rest before I attempted my run.
About 8:30 I started my running. Actually I did a short warmup at a slower jogging speed. I reset the treadmill, then cranked up the speed.
I ran the first mile at a 7:35 pace. But I was already tired. So I walked one minute at a 15:00 pace, then bumped the speed back up, this time to a 7:30 pace. I ran slightly past the 2 mile mark, then walked another minute. Then I bumped the speed back up briefly, but decided I need a short break. I rested for about 5 minutes, maybe 10 minutes. Then I got back on the treadmill and ran to the 3 mile mark at a 7:30 pace. I walked one more minute, then ran at 7:30 pace to the 4 mile mark. I was sweating like a pig. But a 7:35 mile was the fastest I have ever run a mile. My heart rate got up to 184, where my max heart rate is 194, so I got up to 95% of my max HR! Totally anaerobic!
This kind of tells me that I am probably not going to be ready to run a 3:30 marathon in September. But I am going to keep trying to follow this schedule. I think I will be able run a sub 4:00 hour marathon. Maybe I will have the stamina and edurance in May to run a 3:30 marathon. I will continue trying to build my speed!
