Yesterday I ran 5.3 miles to my wife’s work, and then rode home with her. Today I did about a mile on my treadmill as a warmup, then ran the 5.3 miles there (harder than yesterday), ate a quick lunch, then ran/walked the 5.3 miles home. The 5.3 miles going took me 1 hour and 6 minutes. The 5.3 miles back home took me 1 hour and 11 minutes. I walked a little more coming home. Also, there is a relativley steep hill near my house, and so there is a drop of several hundred feet over nearly a mile to the main road. So the going is definatly easier then the coming home. I ran down the hill, but walked back up the hill. So that alone could have accounted for lost minutes. I still tried to keep my heart rate below 150. It was harder to keep it down today than yesterday. My legs are sore today. This was my longest run ever. And I still have karate class tonight!
Next weekend when I am supposed to run the half marathon, I am going to take it easy on the days before it. I am not going to run 6 miles on Saturday, like I did yesterday. When I filled out the registration form, I listed that it would take me 2.5 hours. That will be a faster pace than I did today. But then I will not have run 6 miles the day before. We’ll see. I’ll do what I can do. I don’t think I am doing bad considering I really only began running about a month and a half ago.
