I have been looking at the PC Coach software. It is a great idea, but at $69.95, it is pretty steep. There are also a couple choices: Jeff Galloway’s Marathon Plan, and Uta Pippig’s Marathon Plan. Between the two, the Jeff Galloway’s software sounds like a better fit for me. It uses the data from the Polar Heart Monitor that I have on order (RS200sd). I have trying to find reviews of the software, but haven’t found any really meaty ones yet. The majority of the hits I am getting are sites selling the software. I have found people saying they are using the software, but not how it has been working for them. I am going to keep looking to see if I can find more reviews. I mean if the software is going to have me trying to run 8 minute miles next week, when I have a hard maintaining a 10 minute mile pace for very far. I am not sure how it uses the heart rate data. Does it strive to keep me below 70% to build my aerobic base? Of does it try to get me run faster, aerobic fitness be damned? I would like to build my aerobic speed so that I can run the 26.2 mile marathon at a good pace, and still finish without being half dead. Still, the software sounds cool. I ordered a copy of Jeff Galloway’s Marathon book. Maybe I wait to see what he teaches, and if it fits me, maybe I will order his software.
