I had a dentist appointment at 3pm. I didn’t actually get out of the waiting room til about 3:30. I got my teeth cleaned. By the time they were done, there wasn’t much point in heading back to work. By the time I got there, it would be close to the time to leave to head home. So I headed to the pool to get my swimming in. There was an aquaaerobics class from 6:45-7:30. I could either swim before the class, or afterward. I decided that I would rather get it done before, and be able kick back and relax tonight.
I gashed my head yesterday in the shower at the pool when I hit a wall mounted soap dish. This was before actually getting into the pool, so my swimming was shot. I never swam a stroke yesterday.
I donned my swim cap, and after a quick careful shower, I headed into the pool. The pool was divided in half with kids being entertained by a lifeguard on one side, and only one guy doing some sort of water walking on the other side. My goal was to swim another mile doing only freestyle. I wanted to work on my form. I swam easy, working on my form, and was making good time. When I realized I could break 40 minutes for a mile, I tried to continue to swim easy with good form, but took less time between laps. I finished one mile at 39:36 which I believe is a personal best. I took a minute to relaxed, then decided to continue on to 1.2 miles (half-ironman distance). I hit the 1.2 mile mark in 48:17 which I believe is another personal best. And I know I can do better.
I will continue working on my form, and relaxation to wear I can swim freestyle continuously with no rest between laps. I think I need to work on looking down more. I think I look a little too forward.
The silicone swim cap worked out great.
